In Suprematist Herman Miller (2017), Diao borrows the composition of Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square and Red Square (1915). However, he replaces the red square with the Herman Miller logo, an iconic symbol for the famous furniture company. The artist considers the logo as one of the classic examples of modern design, not only because it combines the letters H and M together, but also because it is shaped like a crown, showing the company’s leadership role in the furniture industry.
